Tomorrow morning, after two weeks off, we will head out south down I-25 for about 3 hours till we get to Canyon City – After some long trips to Vegas, North Platte and Lamar – I am looking forward to the “quick” drive – I am also looking forward to having my pit bitch in tow – This will be Kenny’s first comp of the year. He has given himself the self-proclaimed nickname RGC Anchor as we have never won a Grand Champion while he has been PB’n. This week tho we are coming in with some full bottles of Gentleman Jack and some great momentum winning GC in 3 of our last 4 contests. So maybe this will be the contest Kenny gets his cherry popped. However knowing that in competition BBQ nothing lasts very long it would be a pleasant surprise for us to take the last walk this week.
As usual it wont be easy as the number 4 team in the country The American Dream will be there with payback on his mind as we were able to best him for GC 3 weeks ago in Lamar. David had to settle for second and is coming off a nice run of reserves and has his brisket dialed in with a nice first last week – he will be tough and will be bringin’ the funk!
Other teams that have their sites set on winning include last years champ and 2011 reserve champ Smokin Triggers – Johnny will be tough as he always does well in Canyon – 2011 Champ 4 legs up isn’t going to roll over and 2013 champ Flyboy will be there to defend his title as well. Top national teams Whiskey Pit and Team Enoserve will be making the drive. Colorado has been waiting patiently to see Mike’s locks in all their glory for the first time this year. Mike is also bringin’ the secret weapon! Ryan McBreen from 3 lil macs will be doing the dishes for Mike this week so watch out for them if they don’t get to drunk on Friday. Not to mention all of the usual Rocky Mountain BBQ Association top teams like Burnin Bob who looks to get back on track after an unusual sluggish start – Bob’s capable of rippin’ off a couple wins at any time.
It’s going to be a great barbecue competition and I look forward to the hospitality of the monks – Safe Travels and look forward to seeing everyone!
