southpark

Back from Fairplay BBQ Competition – This just might be one of my favorite RMBBQA Comps. I love the town. I enjoy the scenic drive. I had lunch at Moosejaw and dinner at the southpark steakhouse both meals were great. Being in the mountains is always a good time. We had great weather and a well organized and run competition, The  complimentary breakfast in the morning was OUTSTANDING. The only request I would have is to have turn ins closer to the teams. This year in in our goodie bag we received a free entry into the south park city museum. I spent 45 minutes going through all the old time buildings. Good Stuff!

As far as the cook, I really like my change to chicken and glad the judges agreed and awarded us a 3rd place finish. I made a change to ribs they were improved but still not were I want them. We will continue to develop them during the break to try to get them where I want them. Both our pork and brisket were solid and glad the judges agreed with 3rds in both. Burnin Bob is back and had a great day winning Reserve Grand Champion we just barely beat him by .5 of a point to claim the Grand. Flyboy was a point behind Bob finishing 3rd overall.

I was expecting 3 weeks off before our next comp in Laramie however my wife surprised me and said go to Rio Rancho as her parents will be here for the 4th weekend and will have no trouble with the kids. So we will have our grillin’ class this upcoming week in Centennial CO then heading south for Rio Rancho over the 4th of July weekend for our first RMBBQA event we have ever competed in New Mexico.
