GQue attends national BBQ contestWill compete for $150,000 purse in Oct. event

Talk about getting a monkey off your back. Or maybe pig would be more appropriate in this case?

Superior barbecue master Jason Ganahl, who last year came in 17th in the regional finals of the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour, on Saturday placed second overall in the event and earned himself an invitation to the tour championship to be held in Bentonville, Ark. in October.

Ganahl, who has dubbed himself the “Sultan of Swine,” is the one and only member of barbecue team GQue, which on Saturday earned top honors for ribs and chicken in the 4-meat cook-off, and was named the Las Vegas regional event’s reserve champion.

Ganahl on Oct. 19 will be among 50 pit masters coming from five regions of the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour that will vie for top honors in the competition and a $150,000 grand prize.
